Accurate monitoring and inspection of large aircraft composite materials is a complex on-going challenge. This keynote lecture will give an overview of the state of the art of ultrasonic and thermal wave imaging in NDT1–3 and SHM4–6 of aircraft composite structures in the research field and in industrial application. This will be accompanied by our latest developments of an impact detection system applied to a large commercial aircraft wing, and of nonlinear acoustic-ultrasonic based non-destructive and structural health monitoring systems for the detection and imaging of barely visible impact damage7, creep, cracks and manufacturing defects in laminated materials8.
Location: Building 19. Level 3, Hall 1-2.
